Sketchbook first page

For my first page I was very unsure what to do, I was scared to ruin the whole book by making a single mistake on the starting page. 

In the end I decided that nothing I did NEEDED to be perfect, that was all me putting up unrealistic expectations on myself. I decided if I was too scared to make a mistake in an accurate drawing then I would try something more abstract and relaxed. 

I enjoyed drawing this piece and experimenting with where my subconscious would take me throughout the drawing.

At the end, I had drawn enough over the page to attempt drawing my new plant - Calathea rufibara. 

So pretty :)
